12.30.07 Soldier Adopts Iraqi Boy with Cerebral Palsy


Capt. Scott Southworth was stationed in Iraq where he met Ala'a, a nine-year-old orphan boy with cerebral palsy. Through a series of amazing miracles, this Christian politician-turned-soldier and this poor, weak, abandoned Iraqi boy are now family.

"We crossed political boundaries. We crossed religious boundaries. There was just a massive effort — all on behalf of this little boy who desperately needed people to actually take some action and not just feel sorry for him," Southworth says.
